The SKOWRONKI (The Skylarks) are us
We are a group of girls who just love music. We like listening to it, but, above all, we all like to sing. There are 80 of us, between 6 and 19 years of age and we attend various schools in Poznań and its surrounding area. We differ in age, looks, knowledge, interests and the way we perceive the world, but we have one thing in common: we are all THE SKYLARKS. And, just as the real birds, we want to bring joy to others and to ourselves alike with our singing.

60th Anniversary of the Choir
In the year 2010 the Skowronki Girls’ Choir celebrates its 60th anniversary. To mark this occasion a number of jubilee concerts have been planned. During the main concert, on 9 April 2010, at the University Auditorium (Aula Uniwersytecka), all the choir groups will appear. Works of contemporary Polish composers ( Marek Jasiński, Andrzej Borzym, Małgorzata Nowak-Guzowska) as well as foreign ones (Francis Poulenck, Morten Lauridsen) will be performed.
Additionally, the concert will include the famous “Gloria” RV 589 by Antonio Vivaldi. This will be a true reproduction of the sound of the Venetian orphanage Ospedale de La Pieta. At the orphanage there lived girls born out of wedlock and left by their families. The most talented ones sang in the choir and played in the orchestra, with Vivaldi, employed at the orphanage, acting as the conductor. At that time Vivaldi wrote many compositions whose first public performances took place at the Ospedale. “Gloria”, written probably in 1715 for a mixed choir, is among them. It is this version, with transposed tenor and bass voices, that will be performed by the girls from “Skowronki”. In the orchestra, as 300 years ago, there will be only women players.
We invite you to the concert: 9 April 2010, 7 pm, University Auditorium in Poznań |
